With his work "Koralle" from 2018, Camill Leberer offers an exemplary work for his lacquer paintings, which are to be understood as sculptural. He creates with his special, singular technique a spatiality beyond the perspective space. The flexed cut on the metal plate, the alternation of transparent and opaque colors, and the deliberate use of linear means create a seemingly multilayered structure comparable to a hologram, evoking a virtual space. Depending on the color density, the rectangular, multiply overlapping surfaces graduate in effect - blue, green, all the way to black. The work becomes lively through the deviations from presumed norms, from hatching contrary to rules, etc: At first glance, the work consists of a multitude of quadrangular fields, whether within other quadrangles, or whether in ensemble. On closer inspection, it becomes apparent that the geometry is not accurately formed and that small deviations are intentional. Disparate in layout, Camill Leberer achieves a less mathematical than absolute, spiritual perfection. With his picture titles the artist provokes irritations. What gives the impulse to think of a coral: the light green, the sea-like blue? It is true that Leberer is concerned with concretizing metaphysical pictorial spaces, which are stimulated by poetic titles, but by no means with motivic representations.
